Sharjah ranked one of the best student cities in the world

Sharjah has made it to the list of the top 100 cities in the world for international students, which was released recently by QS World University Rankings, an annual publication of university rankings by produced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

Ranked 77th in the 2017 list, Sharjah was the only city in the United Arab Emirates to make it to this list and one of only three Middle East and North Africa cities on the list. Riyadh was ranked at number 64 and Cairo at number 88.

At the heart of this booming and now popular city for international students, is the American University of Sharjah, the third-highest-ranked university in the UAE by QS World University Ranking. The university has a vibrant study abroad program and over the years, the university has received many incoming study abroad students from all over the world.

Among other things, QS cited the rich cultural heritage in Sharjah as one of the things that made the city to be an attractive study destination for international students. In 1998 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared Sharjah as the ‘Cultural Capital of the Arab World.’ In addition to culture, Sharjah is also the place to go to observe a wealth of Islamic civilization. In 2014 Sharjah was also named as the Capital of Islamic Culture in the Arab Region by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

The city also offers a variety of iron-age archeological sites in places like Mleiha and other areas in this third largest Emirate in the United Arab Emirates.
